  • Goodbye 2011… Hello 2012!

Have you ever wondered how designers in the 1930’s would have predicted fashion to be today? We came across this short video which tells you just how they thought we would dress in the 21st century and guess what… they weren’t far off!

With predictions like transparent netting and aluminium dresses, big hair, inverted heels and wedding dresses made of glass, it sounds just like a description of Lady Gaga’s latest looks! Most of these can even be seen on the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalks, well, apart from the glass wedding dress!

Gareth Pugh and Mark Fast hit the predicted “transparent netting” trend this season.

“Aluminium” dresses were seen on the catwalks for Reem Acra and Jasper Garvida.

Even though they weren’t made of glass, wedding dresses were a big trend for S/S 2012 with the most anticipated dress of the year being Alexander McQueen for the royal wedding.

Overall, 2011 was a fun and exciting year for all of us at Wolf & Badger and although we are still reminiscing on the past year, we can’t wait to see what 2012 has in store for us. The new Spring/Summer collections will soon be delivered and available in store & online early this year so make sure to keep an eye out for the new designers joining us and also the new collections from our established brands. We are also looking forward to London Fashion Week in February, which, as you know, is always super exciting for us!

This coming year is going to be full of surprises and we have some exciting news to share with you in the near future but we will reveal all at a later date! We want to thank all of you for your ongoing support this year and we wish you a happy new year and hope you’ll continue to be a part of our journey for 2012!

  • The Big Egg Hunt – And the Winner is…

We have been bursting at the seams trying not to reveal the winner of our Big Egg Hunt challenge but today we are finally able to make the official announcement!

With an overwhelming 396 votes, we are proud to say that Isharya are the deserving winners and will be bringing to life their design on the Wolf & Badger egg. We are extremely happy to have the opportunity to collaborate with Isharya on this project and can’t wait to see the final result displayed in London at the end of February 2012.

Isharya are an Indian and American based jewellery brand but are no stranger to the UK with the designers, Gauri and Radhika Tandon, both having time spent studying in London. The egg has now been shipped half way across the world to Mumbai in order to be decorated by the designers. Once they have finished decorating the egg, it will be shipped back to London in time for the event! Having done more travelling than some of us here at Wolf & Badger, we’re wondering if any of the other eggs have gone on such an incredible journey.

On top of this, Isharya have been given the opportunity to decorate one out of just 15 hanging eggs rather than the standard egg on a plinth, making this a very special egg indeed!

Here is a sneak peek at what the egg will look like. We hope you are as excited as we are to see the final design!

We want to say thank you to all of the designers who sent in their ideas. We received some amazing designs and would not have been able to choose a winner on our own!

  • Weekend Plans: Jive like it’s 1920, get in the Christmas spirit and shop independent designers

    #1 – Jive

    What: Christmas by Candlelight
    Where: A secret London location
    When: 16th – 17th December, until late
Why: This weekend, why not drink like it’s the 1920’s? The Christmas by Candlelight event, which is held at a secret location in London, is a pop-up cocktail bar completely lit up by candlelight… just as the name suggests. As you enter the stunning venue, a small, hidden den with a vintage speakeasy feel, the hands of time will be turned back to the 20′s. Expect 1920’s jazz bands and live tap-dance performances! On top of this, you will have the chance to enjoy their one-off cocktail creations and can even sample their famous mincemeat vodka! Make sure to get out your flapper dresses and put your best dancing shoes on because this is a night out you don’t want to miss!

    # 2 – Feel the Christmas Spirit

    What: Pop Up Christmas Markets
    Where: Various Locations in London
    When: Daily, Day/Evening
Why: This weekend will very likely be buzzing with people finishing off their Christmas shopping lists. If you are still on the hunt for the perfect present, but would also like to enjoy the Christmas spirit, why not visit some of the numerous pop up markets happening around London?
We suggest heading down to Circus to find some truly unexpected gifts for those friends who are impossible to buy for. If you’re looking for a market with a twist, check out Once Upon a Wintertime at Netil House. You will be able shop, eat some great food, listen to live music and even take part in a roller disco! Lastly, the Secret Emporium Christmas Market at Village Underground will have a range of original gifts ranging from jewellery to art. With all these markets, your choice of gifts is endless and you are guaranteed to please your friends with something truly unique.
And of course… Wolf & Badger have an exciting selection of gorgeous products from independent designers, that no one would dismiss under the Christmas tree!

    # 3 – Shop

What: Find the perfect Christmas present
    Where: Wolf & Badger Boutique
    When: Saturday 17th December, 10.30am – 6.30pm
Why: As the last week before Christmas starts, time seems to be flying and we are asking ourselves what happened to our plan not to wait until the last minute to do our Christmas shopping? We are convinced that this weekend does not have to turn into pure stress and have decided to sweeten this Saturday with our Christmas Shopping event. This is a great opportunity to check out the great designers we have in store and enjoy some nibbles and Prosecco. On top of this, we are offering an exclusive 10% discount on all products in our store, meaning you have the chance to find the perfect gifts for the ones you love or even to find something special for yourself. We hope to see you there!

  • Today we love… Gareth Pugh for MAC

Gareth Pugh, one of Britain’s most celebrated and avant-garde designers, brings a touch of drama to your make up bag this Christmas with his exclusive range for MAC cosmetics. The partnership is a natural progression from their years of collaboration together for the designer’s catwalk shows and is the first time that Pugh has done something mainstream and commercial.

The range is, in true Pugh style, dark and beautifully gothic. The colour palette is a mix of dark purples, violets and greys and covers everything from eyeshadows and lipsticks to nail polishes and even a make up bag. We especially love how they have kept the packaging in the classic MAC design but using a heavier material and stamping a simple, geometric cross on the front. Perfect for adding an edgy touch to your makeup bag!

It’s extremely tough to choose our favourites but we will definitely make sure to get the dark plum lipstick and the super cool and limited edition ‘Flight Lashes’ before they’re gone!

The collection is available now but is sure to fly off the shelves, especially just before Christmas, so make sure to hurry up if you love the collection as much as we do!

  • Music Monday: Warpaint

This week’s Music Monday is dedicated to girl power and no, we are not talking about the first girl-band success on the X Factor.

We’d rather like to introduce you to Los Angeles based quartet Warpaint. Founded in 2004 by childhood friends Theresa Wayman, Emily Kokal and Jenny Lee Lindberg ( drummer Stella Mozgawa joined later on), Warpaint released their debut album “The Fool” through Rough Trade Records in 2010. They have been extensively touring the US and Europe (amongst others as the opening act for The xx) and have played various major festivals including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds Festivals and Coachella.

We’re giving these girls extra brownie points not only for actually being a cool all girl band, but also for being given the seal of approval from LA legends Anthony Kedis and Flea from The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

We can’t help but be enchanted by the dream like quality of ‘The Undertow’ and just to highlight the fact that these girls can really sing, we’re posting up an acoustic version of this song. We hope you’ll join us in swinging your heads like an indie kid.

  • Weekend Plans: Drinks at the Sky Lodge, Chocolate Festival & Chris Moore Exhibition

    #1 – Relax

    What: Sky Lodge
    Where: The Sky Room London
    When: 7th – 17th December, Wed – Sat., 5pm – 10pm
Why: With the economy currently on a downward spiral, it’s obvious that when it comes to cutting costs your annual ski trip will probably be the first thing to go. If you’re finding yourself missing the memories of past trips, there’s no need to worry because this year the Alps will be coming to you! The Sky Lodge is a one-off, pop up speakeasy that will re-create those precious moments spent at the lodge. You can expect quirky, Alpine inspired performances, Once-Upon-a-Time storytelling, caroling around the fire, alpine style food and festive cocktails. If you want the full experience, you can book in advance and enjoy an outdoor Alpine tour of London and receive complimentary homemade marshmallows! Get out those wooly hats and goggles and prepare to hit the slopes!

    #2 – Indulge

    What: The Chocolate Festival
    Where: Southbank Centre
    When: 9th – 11th December, 11am – 8pm
Why: Are you addicted to chocolate? If, like us, you can’t live without the creamy and sweet ingredient, then this weekend Southbank Centre is the place to be! The annual Chocolate Festival will be returning to London for a 7th year in a row to celebrate all things chocolate. It’s a wonderful opportunity to sample treats made by some of the world’s best chocolatiers, chat to artisan chocolate producers and maybe even find some delicious gifts for anyone left on your shopping list. You will also have the chance to take part in a tutored tasting session meaning you could leave feeling like an educated chocolate connoisseur! If you’re the kind of person who is more interested in eating the stuff than learning about it then you will be happy to know plenty of sweet and savoury dishes will be on offer for you to taste. You might even find a chocolate flavoured cocktail or two to help keep you warm in the cold winter weather!

    #3 – Absorb

    What: Chris Moore – Catwalking
    Where: Kings Place Gallery
    When: 2nd December – 10th February, 10am – 6pm
Why: This weekend is a great chance to take some time out of your busy Christmas schedules and check out Chris Moore’s new exhibition at Kings Place Gallery. A series of the photographer’s iconic images will be on display, showcasing key pieces of his work from the 1960’s until the present day. The exhibition is almost a documentary for the fashion world and will give you an exclusive glimpse into the world of supermodels and celebrity culture as well as designers such as John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Moore’s incredible and exciting career so make sure to check it out for a chance to see the photographer’s iconic images!
