Pineapples on pendants, diamonds on doughnuts and burgers on bangles- what could be more delectable than your favourite snacks adorning your accessories? This season we’re not counting the calories when it comes to our favourite food themed jewellery pieces; we’re piling our plates high with playful pieces from designers such as TADAM!, Goldie Rox and Glenda Lopez.
Food-themed fashion has been all over the runways recently: most notably, Moschino’s ‘Fast Fashion- Next Day After The Runway Collection’, Anya Hindmarch’s snack inspired bags, and Karl Lagerfeld’s ‘Chanel Shopping Center’ supermarket runway, being at the forefront of the food-fashion mania.
But this fashion trend doesn’t just boil down to quirky embellishments and ironic statements; food-themed fashion signifies a new conceptualisation of fashion jewellery. Within a year of the brand’s founding, TADAM! Design, most famous for their doughnut necklaces, were awarded the Lithuanian GOOD DESIGN Award in 2013 for their ‘Sweet Course For Your Eyes’ jewellery collection. Appreciating food as an aesthetic is an important concept in the food-fashion trend; in today’s modern society we value the art, science and craftsmanship of food. This artistry is being replicated throughout fashion design producing pieces that, quite honestly, look good enough to eat.
But let’s be honest, not all of us want to be embellished in top to toe pizza print. Instead, satisfy your cravings with a statement necklace like TADAM!’s Caramelised Doughnut with Cinnamon or The French Fry Necklace from Goldie Rox, paired with your favourite white tee for a simple yet playful style. For something more understated, try Glenda Lopez’s Hot Dog Ring- a simple yet conspicuous nod to this quirky trend.
So whether you’re a fry-up fashion kind of gal, or prefer your finery a bit fruitier, we’ve got you covered with our ‘Play With Your Food’ jewellery collection.
