The inspiration behind h.huna stems from the magic behind what attention to detail can bring to a garment, and the story each garment can tell. Its founder, Siobhan Shanley, started to understand the talent that goes into structuring clothing when her Grandmother (a.k.a Nan) made her communion dress back in the 90s. Over time she started to delve deeper into her Nan’s wardrobe, containing clothing from the 50s and 60s that she had made with her own hands or had been passed on from one of her sisters. In light of this and following a 10 year career working within the fast paced fashion environment, Siobhan decided to take a side step and follow her dream of creating a key capsule collection consisting of simple, functional, pristine quality wardrobe essentials designed to tell a story from beginning through to the finished article, Wishing to represent the talent of the manufacturers close to home, h.huna started the ball rolling by working primarily with UK and Scottish factories. A slow process in which good relationships were built and beautiful garments were created using carefully sourced fabrics from EU based fabric and trim mills from within their stock collections lessening the fabric wastage to create garments with a story-telling purpose and of exceptional dressmaking, to be worn time and time again the h.huna way.
