SAHEL began in the desert of Burkina Faso among a family of Fulani reins makers. Horse lovers by tradition, Fulani people used to dress their steeds in vibrant tassles to accentuate the horse’s movement and turn heads. Traditional Fulani horse harnesses are made from strong braided leather straps, hand-woven by highly skilled artisans. London fashion editor, Charlie Davies, discovered these people and their unique skill nine years ago and immediately saw their potential to make luxuriously crafted fashion accessories. Fuelled by her passion for beautiful design, sustainability and preserving traditional craft skills, Charlie has been developing SAHEL since returning to London three years ago. All SAHEL straps and tassles are crafted in Burkina Faso, and our bags are designed and made in England.
