This pattern was inspired by Villa Estrella D’ouro, one of the Lisbons worker’s villas. The working-class neighborhoods emerged at the end of the 19th century, due to the need to house an immense number of workers who, in search of better living conditions, flocked to the city of Lisbon to obtain employment in the newly inaugurated factories. Inaugurated in 1907, with a project authored by Norte Junior, commissioned by Agapito de Serra Fernandes, this neighborhood was destined to housing workers, with the exception of Villa Rosalina, right in the center, owned by the former owner.

This pattern encompasses several typical elements of the neighborhood: pink wrought iron, facades with white wooden doors, a tile panel with a hand-painted star.

Meet The Designer

Mariana Pires is the designer behind Lipscani Portugal - a fashion accessory brand with inspiration in the Art Nouveau / Art Deco movement. Inspired by her Portuguese roots, all the prints are hand drawn by her and are made to perpetuate the culture and architecture of the turn on the century. These prints are made to take its user through the pages of history and Portuguese culture. All products are crafted by hand, by skilled artisans in Portugal. "We want to pay tribute to the architecture of the time when we were becoming an industrialized society. Although I take pictures of elements for inspiration, I avoid looking at them the moment I'm drawing. Memory is an excellent tool for creativity because it enhances the feeling of a place, more than the reality of a photo "says Mariana Pires.
