Some of Freya + Bailey’s star ingredients sound good enough to eat….and that’s because they are! Don’t give your face cream a lick but do nourish yourself inside and out with these amazing ingredients.

First, a reminder about antioxidants. Freya + Bailey focus on anti-pollution skincare for good reason; in the modern world, we’re exposed to so many pollutants that the free radical load can overwhelm our antioxidant defences. The resulting cellular damage results in visible ageing. So to keep your skin in good condition, load up with a broad complex of antioxidants through food, skincare and supplements.

Now, on to three antioxidant superstars for your skin!

Avocados

Avocados are a source of Vitamin C, an essential nutrient - humans are one of the only mammals (along with Guinea Pigs!) that can’t make it - we have to get plenty in the diet through fresh fruit and veg. Topically, this powerful antioxidant protects the skin from pollutants that cause free-radical damage and helps even out skin tone.

Plus, Vitamin C’s needed for synthesising collagen, essential for preserving skin’s youthful firmness and elasticity.

Try SLAY! Reveal Face Scrub to feed your skin with avocado oil + multivitamin complex.

Top up with food supplements too, for maximum antioxidant protection inside and out - Pollution Protection Daily Multi provides a broad complex of antioxidants including Vitamin C.

Green Tea

Green Tea extract offers a unique antioxidant called EGCG, protecting the deep layers of our skin from UV rays - vital alongside sunscreen to prevent premature signs of ageing. It’s a great addition to skin care for reducing inflammation and redness - Try it in REBOOT! Incredible Face moisturiser.

Drinking green tea delivers those antioxidants to protect your cells against oxidative damage internally too, we can easily boost our antioxidant intake with a morning cup of matcha. Plus green tea has another superpower to offer: THEANINE. One of my favourite supplement nutrients, it’s the calming amino acid from tea. Since we should avoid caffeine in the evening, I use L-Theanine in my Night Support supplement - calming down busy brains so we can sleep naturally.

Olive Oil

You use it for salad dressings, but did you know it’s great topically for skin too?

Organic extra virgin olive oil is rich in vitamin E, an essential vitamin that works throughout the body as a fat-soluble antioxidant. It protects skin cells from free radicals caused by UV and pollution. It reduces collagen breakdown and so reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. F+B put it to great use in the purifying formula of the detox face mask.

Interestingly, olive oil contains monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) which technically should mean it’s easily damaged by light, heat and oxygen. But Olive Oil is so well protected by its high strength Vitamin E and Polyphenol antioxidants, we can even cook with it - it’s one of the Mediterranean diet’s superstar ingredients (I’m talking moderate heats, no deep fat frying allowed!). Still, look after all nutritious oils by storing them in opaque containers in a cool place.
