Due to the handmade nature of our artwork, colours and patterns may vary slightly from the image shown. Think of it like your very own Mona Lisa!
Traditionally, silk is hand wash and dry clean only. Our Hummingbird Australia silks are of the highest quality and machine washable, but they are still silk and need to be cared for.
Hand Wash Cold
Use cold to lukewarm water but always ensure its below 30C/86F – even a slight increase in temperature can change silk dramatically.
Heat ruins the fabric structure of silk.
Mild Cleaning Agents
Use a special and pH-neutral liquid detergent for Silk, e.g. Persil Silk and Wool Washing Liquid.
Do Not Use Bleaches
Avoid detergents with enzymes, bleaches, and brighteners at all cost.
Do Not Tumble Dry
Never tumble dry silk. Hang dry if possible, however, avoid direct sunlight exposure.
Cold Iron As Needed
Irons should be set on the lowest possible heat setting, and if the iron has a particular silk setting, that is even better. Moving the iron back and forth can stretch and pull the silk out of shape. The iron should never rest on any spot for too long, in case of burning silk fabric structure.
Do You Use Non-Toxic Dyes?
All our dyes are non-toxic and certified by STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX. We work closely with one of the leading silk suppliers in China and therefore guarantee silk of great quality.

Meet The Designer
Our pieces feature individual, hand-painted patterns, designed to bring a pop of colour to life. We pride ourselves in focusing on ethical production processes and being a small, independent brand that strives to offer something different. We are an international team - our roots and places we've recently experienced (including Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany and the UAE) all had influences on our designs, hoping to reflect on these journeys with Hummingbird Australia.
Our first vibrant, hand-painted pattern is called Joy of Life - Joie de Vivre - بهجة الحياة and our very own expression of all things beautiful, strong and empowered:
Joy of Life - Joie de Vivre - بهجة الحياة
A lady the moon chases and the stars wish for. A wild damsel with a gypsy soul that dances with the sun. A free spirit, a beautiful mind and a boundless heart that isn’t meant to be tamed. Not one to run away from chaos, she looks a challenge in the eye and gives it a wink. And just like the vibrant, mesmerising colours that effortlessly twirl on, she too, freely flutters, soaking up her radiant glow from the languages that whisper to her and the cultures that caress her. Because while her beauty may be delicate, it is her magic that fuels dreams and brings to life the possibility of everything.
Inspired by Europe. Painted in India. Brought to life in Australia.
