Weekend Plans: Life in Context

#Behind the Picture

Wars of the Roses Towton, United Kingdom, 2008

What: The Bigger Picture: A story told twice by Tom Craig & A.A. Gill
Where: Flaere Gallery
When: Till 10 March 2012. Gallery open: Thurs: 10am – 8pm. Fri: 10am – 6pm. Sat: 10am – 4pm
Why: Photographer Tom Craig and renowned critic and writer A.A. Gill have travelled together on assignments across four continents in the last eight years. Flaere Gallery, in association with Quintessentially, brings together 20 unseen photographs by Tom Craig which are accompanied by texts by A.A. Gill to give each image a rich context. Expect texts that are not just descriptions of what you see in front of you. Instead of telling a story alongside each other, the aim is to create multi-layered and complimentary work:
‘This is a personal story told twice; a collaboration between a writer and a photographer that demonstrates how two perspectives and two media tell a different story from the same scene – and how together they make the narrative so much the richer.’

#Behind the Music

What: 80 Years of Recording at Abbey Road Studios
Where: Abbey Road Studios
When: 10th & 11th, 23 – 25th March
Why: As part of their 80th anniversary celebrations, the Abbey Road Studios will be opening their doors to the public for a unique experience. Get an insight into the secrets and history of one of the world’s most iconic studios. Brian Kehew and Kevin Ryan – authors of the book ‘Recording the Beatles’ – will give an insightful presentation. The ’80 Years of Recording at Abbey Road Studios’ talk will explore the studios’ decades of landmark recordings, celebrating the technology and sonic creativity that lead to epoch defining music from feted artists. You will also have the chance to get up close to the original vintage equipment including some of the very instruments used by legends like The Beatles, The Shadows and Pink Floyd.

#Behind the Design

What: Deci London Trunk Show
Where: The Lab – Wolf & Badger Notting Hill Boutique
When: Saturday, 10th March. 12 – 5pm
Why: Deci London will join us in our boutique tomorrow to give you an exclusive preview of her new spring summer collection. Although we think that an exclusive 15% discount on all of her pieces available tomorrow (including her new collection) as well as delicious champagne and chocolates are a wonderful reason to come down and visit, we think the main ‘attraction’ is the designer Dessy herself. This will be a great opportunity to let her expertly talk you through her new collection and to answer all questions you might have. From ‘What was the inspiration for the new collection?’, ‘Why did you chose certain materials and stones?’ to ‘How take I best care of my favourite jewellery pieces?’ … a trunk show is the perfect moment to ask!

Happy weekend x

Weekend Plans: Conchita Perez trunk show, Dalston’s Long Table and a unique cinema experience

# 1 – Eat

What: The Long Table
Where: Abbot Street, Dalston
When: Every Friday night until Christmas, 6pm – 1am
Why: This Friday is the launch of London’s only outdoor food night market, taking place in a secret, disused space in East London’s trendy Dalston. The Long Table is a pop-up market with a focus on bringing people together, offering dishes from a mix of top street food vendors, including the five-star steakhouse Hawksmoor and Exmouth Market’s Moro. There will be live music, an abundance of drinks and a chance to mix with locals whilst sharing some truly amazing food – something we rarely get the chance to enjoy in the heart of such a big city!

How will you find this secret location? Just follow the amazing smell of the food stalls and listen for the sound of bands playing!

Top tip: Although the markets are covered and have fire pits to help beat the cold, make sure to dress warm! Think big cosy scarves, thick knitwear and woolly hats.

# 2 – Cinema

What: The Underground Film Club
Where: The Dorfman Hub in The Roundhouse, Camden
When: Friday & Saturday night, various start times
Why: Created by the same people who did this summers Rooftop Film Club (which we blogged about here), the Underground Film Club goes below ground for the winter season and will be showing films to suit everyone’s taste. The films will be screened beneath the Roundhouses main floor in ‘The Dorfman Hub’, which is a brick maze once used to store ash and cinders from steam trains, meaning you are guaranteed a completely unique cinema experience! With a big screen, high quality wireless headphones, comfy chairs and fabulous food, there will be everything you need for an incredible evening.

This weekend, head down to see some real cult classics. Back to the Future is playing on Friday night (starts at 9.30pm) and Pulp Fiction will be shown on Saturday (starts at 7.30pm). Since we can’t chose which one we would rather see, we may just go on both nights!

To top it all off, Conchita Perez’s team will be there, so you will have opportunity to meet the people behind the brand!

Have a nice weekend! x
