Carbon Crackdown: Wolf & Badger Carbon Reduction Initiative Of The Year 2021

by Wolf & Badger

The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming is an essential step towards protecting the planet today and in the future. This award recognises the effort put into reducing carbon emissions in order to attain the goal of reaching a net zero target.

Wear London are a menswear brand dedicated to keeping manufacturing alive in the UK. From start to finish, Wear London's manufacturing process takes place in their factory based in the East end of London. The brand also source their fabrics from mills across the UK and Italy, often choosing to work with surplus fabric that would otherwise go to waste, giving these textiles an entirely new lease of life.

Cynefn produce produce timeless, museum-grade, archival art which will last a lifetime. The brand print in-house with vegan friendly, refillable inks onto acid-free archival paper that can last for up to 300 years and is fully recyclable. Cynefn is enrolled in Ecologi's Climate Positive workforce scheme and, each month, donate the equivalent of double their emissions to this scheme. Via Ecologi's Shopify integration, the brand also plant one tree for every order placed on our website. To date, they have planted 376 trees and removed 5.88 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere – this is the equivalent of offsetting 5 long haul flights, 14,500 miles in a car, or saving 18 square metres of sea ice.

Cocoove is a womenswear brand, based in the UK, that celebrates local production. This year, the brand made a conscious effort to improve and reduce their carbon footprint through manufacturing entirely in the UK and implementing fully recyclable packaging using sustainably sourced, local materials. Cocoove produce their collections in small, limited runs, rejecting mass production and minimising excess waste. Instead, the brand respond efficiently to demand for popular garments through controlled, studio production.

Founded in 2003, Branch Jewellery work with local craftsmen and women in Bali and Vietnam to create unique jewellery in small family-run workshops. The brand have partnered with Ecologi’s Climate Positive workforce scheme and for each item sold, they plant a tree. In a few months they have planted nearly 3000 trees and offset 12 tonnes of carbon.

Working with one of the last bag makers in East London, the accessories brand keep their production chain as local and transparent as possible. Been London use materials destined for landfill and take a zero-waste approach to design, through using only square and rectangular panels that produce almost no waste. Been have also partnered with NGO Tree Nation to support the reforestation of the Amazon.

Malaika New York produce their collection locally in New York, including all of the patterns and samples. The brand aims to eliminate environmental detriments in the production processes by using minimal or zero waste patterns, ensuring each designs has a distinct purpose. Producing overseas is incredibly wasteful as typically the product development process could take more than 10 shipments back and forth before it's approved. Malaika further their sustainability efforts by integrating up-cycled materials like plastics and regenerated fabrics, and for each item sold, a tree is planted for The Canopy Project.

From the first thread to the final label, Thread & Tonic continually work towards the reduction of chemical toxicity and environmental damage within their production processes. The brand's accessories are handcrafted in the world's first leather goods factory that’s run on 100% renewable solar energy. Thread & Tonic focus on keeping their supply chain as local to their factory as possible, while working with their partners to offset all CO2 that is released through the making of products. Every raw material used in the collection is also either recycled or biodegradable.

Accessories brand Amschela enrolled on the SME Climate Hub Commitment, an operation that supports a global community of forward-thinking businesses seeking to become future proof and contributes to the official United Nations’ ‘Race to Zero’ campaign - a campaign committed to halving greenhouse emissions before 2030 and going carbon neutral before 2050. The brand have also partnered with Green Spark which aims to tackle issues such as climate change, plastic pollution, and deforestation. Every Amschela website sale also goes towards either planting a tree or rescuing a plastic bottle from the ocean.
