Meet The Designer

Whirling Dervish specialise in hand-made cushions and lampshades that are created from antique and hand-woven textiles. We work with block-print, resist-dyed, hand-woven, hand-embroidered fabrics and antique silks sourced from Turkey, Uzbekistan, Morocco, Syria, Palestine, Pakistan, India, Japan, Peru and Ghana. Our collection tells stories of the past and celebrates the traditions of those who wove the fabrics – a journey down the silk roads and beyond.
Not only do we use antique textiles because we believe the colours; the designs; the materials; and the methods are the best, but also because we have a commitment to minimise the consumption of natural raw materials and the quantity of textiles sent to landfill. We partner with small workshops in developing countries, supporting them to maintain traditional crafts. The feather and down in our cushions comes from happy ducks on small farms. It is collected as a by-product.
