This enamel Sphinx pin has a 2-tone gold & antique copper finish and is embellished with a Black Mother of Pearl cabochon. It was directly inspired by the Sphinx of Naxos statue at the Archaeological Museum of Delphi. Egyptian Sphinxes have the body of a lion and head of a man, while the Greek Sphinx has the head of a woman, the feathered chest and wings of a bird of prey, and the body of a lioness. Sphinx statues were often positioned at temple entrances as guardians.
Finish may tarnish and darken over time. To polish, use lemon juice to wet the pin then sprinkle some table salt on the surface. Using a soft cloth, rub the piece to remove the tarnish. A pro tip is to sprinkle the salt on the cut half of the lemon and then rub the pin with the lemon. After a few minutes, the surface will be shiny and lustrous. Rinse and dry.
