Christmas is officially over, but that’s no reason to spend January wallowing away in sadness. There are plenty of new openings to keep your mind alive and your taste buds feeling fresh.
Eat: Pond Dalston
There’s nothing like a slice of Hawaii to brighten up those January blues, and The Pond in Dalston is just the place to do it. Situated in an old Victorian warehouse offering authentic Hawaiian dishes and exotic cocktails; expect great things from this place which was named as one of 2014’s greatest highlights.
Drink: Bermondsey Arts Club
A new speakeasy has emerged on Bermondsey Street, which back in the Victorian era was a public toilet... Gone are the aromas of urine, the Bermondsey Arts Club has had a makeover into a smooth jazz joint complete with a well stocked bar with ingredients sourced from the nearby Borough Market.
Stop by for a tasty Negroni and enjoy this hidden gem on a chilled Sunday afternoon.
Do: London Fields Lido at night
If all that eating and drinking over the festive period has well and truly tired you out then perhaps a sportier activity is taking your fancy this New Year. London Fields Lido is open till 9pm on weekday evenings now that they’ve installed floodlights, and we can’t think of a better way to burn off those roast dinners than in an outdoor heated pool at night.
