You can tell a lot about a gentleman from his sock drawer - or so London Sock Company have me believe, as I cast my eyes over their impressive display of stylish, ribbed cotton socks in an assortment of colours, during their recent trunk show at Wolf & Badger in Notting Hill.
With Sinatra playing in the background and the offer of a dram, I caught up with co-founders Ryan Palmer and Dave Pickard to find out what really makes the ‘perfect pair’ and who epitomises the ‘modern gentleman’. I was welcomed into their gentleman’s club of Rat Pack tunes and hard liquor, to view their collection of quality cotton ribbed socks, which will certainly add a handsome pop of colour to the modern gent’s attire at just £12 a pair.
Taking my drink from beside a miniature penny-farthing and top hat, it was clear to see that London Sock Company pay attention to detail - in fact each pair of their socks features their stylish logo of a Victorian British Gentleman with his penny farthing. So what about the socks? The real question to deliberate over is: What colour works with your daily attire? Is it Curious Orange, Hyde Park Green or Earl Grey? Gents the choice is yours, you can gather your thoughts whilst taking in the current collection at the Notting Hill store and online.
I left the store with a pair of Ebony Black and Earl Grey - well Father’s Day is coming up - and I was more than sold on the idea of styling below the ankles.
One thing’s for sure the modern gentleman who favours the appealing wares of London Sock Company won’t be dashing to his sock drawer as an afterthought on the way out the door.
As the firm likes to say:
'YOU MAY BE BORN TO BE A MAN, BUT YOU MUST DESIRE TO BE A GENTLEMAN.'
