Equal Pay Day is the symbolic day dedicated to raising awareness of the gender pay gap. In the United States, this date symbolizes how far into the year the average woman must work in order to earn what the average man earns in the previous year regardless of experience or job type.
On average, women earn $0.82 for every dollar a white, non-Hispanic man earns, which adds up to nearly three months of free labor each year — and the numbers are much worse for women of color. Through purchase with purpose, FQ Collection hope to close the wage gap before the projected 257 years it would take to do so. Each time you shop FQ Collection, you support female-founded businesses while donating to non-profit organizations advancing UN Global Goal 5: Gender Equality.
In celebration of Equal Pay Day we are spotlighting FQ Collection, The Female Quotient’s line of jewelry and apparel with equality themed messaging. Purchase with purpose from female founded brands that give back and get us one step closer to closing the wage gap. We sat down with them to learn more about how their collection promotes gender equality.

What are some of the key values at FQ Collection?
Giving back is at our core and your purchase with us will always have a purpose. What is Equal Pay Day and why is it important to you?
Equal Pay Day is the symbolic day dedicated to raising awareness of the gender pay gap. In the United States, this date symbolizes how far into the year the average woman must work in order to earn what the average man earns in the previous year regardless of experience or job type. The pay gap goes beyond just pay disparity; it also points to a wider issue of representation, in which women are concentrated in less senior (and thus lower-paid) jobs. Each time you shop FQ Collection, you support female-founded businesses while donating to non-profit organizations advancing UN Global Goal 5: Gender Equality, unlocking potential for girls and women around the world.
If you could pick one piece from your collection to shop on Equal Pay Day, which would it be?
So hard to choose just one, when every item is special in its own way. Our favorites at the moment are our Equality Graphic Tee and our Use Your Voice Necklace, signifying the impact each and every one of us can make towards an equal, more equitable future.
How can we play our part to close the gender wage gap?
If you are a leader, conduct a pay audit to make sure your employees are being paid equitably. Individually, we can all become informed of the disparities that exist. Looking for a place to start?
