Meet The Designer

Robert Christopher Leather is a business centered around craftsmanship. Each piece is created by Robert in his Somerset studio entirely by hand, with no powered assisted tools being used in any part of the process.

The stitching is achieved by using the saddle stitch technique whereby a single line of linen thread is passed through a series of diagonal holes. This results in a far stronger stitch and gives an appearance impossible to replicate by machine. The leather used is all Vegetable Tanned. This method relies on using naturally occurring tannins found within materials such as oak and chestnut bark to turn the raw-hide into leather.

The result is slower and more costly, hence why only 10% of leather is produced in this way, but the result is a product that is more environmentally friendly, stronger, and retains more of the unique characteristics of the leather. Although the techniques used to create each piece are traditional, they are centred around modern living and exhibit a range of color palettes that go beyond what is expected in the luxury leather market.

Every piece is made-to-order, so you can be sure that every cut, stitch and burnish is done so to the highest standard, just for you.
