For the first month of use, it is important to avoid taking the handbag out in the rain. This should give the fibres sufficient time to become more flexible and therefore less likely to react to water. After the first month of use, any spots of water or rain can be gently wiped into the leather, rather than allowing droplets to just sit on the surface.
As the leathers are dyed, for the first few wears they may transfer a small amount of colour onto clothing. This is a typical characteristic of vegetable tanned leathers and will mean that the bag ages beautifully.
Our natural (i.e. nude and camel) leather products will patina over time resulting in a darker, uneven colouration. Leather fans will recognise this as the ultimate sign of quality. The process itself can be quickened but should not and cannot be avoided.
To clean the bag, it the best if you purchase a cream from the various online leather care outlets. You should always use a neutral, rather than a particular colour (which will contain a dye) and test on an inconspicuous area of the handbag.
All of the hardware on our bags is made from solid brass cast in Java. Just like the vegetable tanned leather, it will darken over time as the metal oxidises in the atmosphere. Should you wish to polish it back up, you can use any readily available brass polish, making sure that you protect the leather first with a protective cloth.

Meet The Designer
From the skillfully hand-woven Intrecciato patterns to the beautiful finishing of each piece, Kmana is an authentic expression of refined ancestral craftsmanship and timeless design. A passion for travel and cross-cultural design unites the founders of Kmana, a Mediterranean couple living in Bali for the past 8 years. With sustainability and integrity at the very heart of their design studio, the bags accessories are vegetable tanned using natural pigments extracted from the local trees and entirely handcrafted by a network of women cooperatives and artisan workshops in Java and Bali. Kmana - the Bahasa expression for ‘where are you going?’ - honors the boldness of all the wanderers, makers and shakers and of all those who believe that we are constantly creating the world we live in.
