The Muybridge's Donkey Giphoscope displays an animated GIF of a donkey kicking, created from Plate 658 by Eadweard Muybridge (1887) in Animal locomotion: an electro-photographic investigation of consecutive phases of animal movements, 1872-1885.

Eadweard Muybridge was an English photographer important for his pioneering work in photographic studies of motion, and early work in motion-picture projection. The Muybridge's Donkey Giphoscope has been entirely handcrafted in Italy. It has a mono-component aluminum holding frame, black velvet details to avoid friction, and a black painted wood base.

Meet The Designer

The Giphoscope is the world first motion picture frame, created by designers Alessandro Scali and Marco Calabrese.
The Giphoscope turns GIFs and digital videos into an analog piece of art and design, handcrafted in Italy with devotion.
Each Giphoscope is a unique object, an exclusive limited edition of one.

Based on the Mutoscope created by Herman Casler in the 1890s, the Giphoscope follows the same principle as the flip book: a sequence of images on a Rolodex-style wheel with a handle that you can turn to 'flip' them.
Each Giphoscope is a unique object, an exclusive limited edition of one.
