The Sava represents the third longest tributary of the Danube and its largest tributary by discharge. Even though the name Sava became very common among Slavs, especially as a personal name (either male or female) and has a "Slavic tone", the river's name has Celtic and Roman origins, with the Romans having used the name Savus.
