Morgan Suarez talks us through what goes into planning eco-conscious trips, packing for family trips, and advocating for a holistic lifestyle.
We had the wonderful pleasure of speaking with content creator, fitness and fashion enthusiast, and mum of three, Morgan Suarez (@morganfaithsuarez), about eco-conscious travelling, from her journey into advocating for a holistic lifestyle to the minutiae of packing for conscious family trips.
1
How do you define sustainable travel, and where did your passion for it come from?
Sustainable travel to me means being conscious of how I’m impacting the earth in the decisions I make, even when it comes to traveling. Even though a flight may be the easiest route, if driving is an option and it’s doable then why not? I think this passion comes from just learning to be more conscious of my impact on the world in general.
2
What all goes into planning an eco-conscious trip? What are the factors you consider, and are there any dealbreakers you’ve encountered in planning?
When I plan an eco-conscious trip, I focus on minimizing my environmental footprint while still having a meaningful experience. We do that by prioritizing trains, buses, or nonstop flights over multiple short-haul flights, staying at eco-certified hotels, locally owned guesthouses, or boutique hotels, and bringing reusable items to reduce waste.

With three daughters, packing for a family trip must be a hands-on job. How do you go about it, and what are the tips and tricks you’ve learned along the way?
It can definitely be overwhelming, but I’ve learned that the more time I spend planning the easier things flow. I do this by planning outfits before packing, instead of just throwing in the number of tops and bottoms per day, I grab a bunch of tops and bottoms, and make sure that there are actual outfits that the girls will want to wear. And I always always pack 1 extra outfit because we almost always need it. Also packing a spare drawstring bag for dirty laundry makes unpacking a breeze.

Can you share a bit about your journey into content creation and sustainable fashion?
I came about content creation kind of naturally in the boom of influencing around 2016 after I became a first time mom. I gained a following and it kinda of bloomed from there. Then later on as I became more aware of the impact of fast fashion on the environment, I started to shop more consciously and encouraged my community to do the same.
5
What drove you to start advocating for a holistic, sustainable lifestyle?
The realization that nothing changes until it changes. If everyone had the mindset that nothing matters because our small contributions don’t make an impact in the bigger scheme of things, then nothing would ever change. But we need to realize that the small changes we make ourselves actually do make a difference, and cause a ripple effect. It’s all about doing what you can with the tools that you have.

What role do you think platforms like Wolf & Badger—and the independent, ethical designers they support—play in shaping a more sustainable and responsible fashion industry, and how do you personally approach sustainability in your own work?
Knowledge is power, and platforms like Wolf & Badger are so great for bringing awareness to ethical fashion and sustainability. I love that there’s one place where you can find everything from home decor to jewelry and everything in between, and you can shop confidently knowing each brand has already been vetted. In my own work, I try to shop sustainably by staying away from trends and buying timeless pieces that I’ll wear for years.

What’s next for you? Are there any upcoming trips or projects you’re excited about?
We are currently trying to plan a trip to NYC and Mexico City, which is super exciting!!
