Joana Mota Capitão Jewellery
With Lisbon in her heart at all times, Joana Mota Capitão Jewellery emerges as a contemporary jewellery brand that combines organic elements with geometric references, creating its own language — fluid and timely. Her pieces reflect influences from her travels, nature, art and things that surround her.
Created in 2012, Joana Mota Capitão Jewellery is the outcome of the mishmash of an old sense of inquisitiveness with a late blooming, inspired by both her grandmothers. After graduating from a Production and Ambient Design degree at IADE, in Lisbon, which gave her graphic knowledge, she enrolled in a jewellery course at Ar.Co, in Lisbon as well, followed by an internship at Marc Monzó and Estela Guitart respective studios, in Barcelona. After returning to Portugal, she starts working as an assistant at the studio of Portuguese designer and jeweller Valentim Quaresma, where she ends up finding the decisive inspiration to begin her own brand.
In addition to her own collections, Joana Mota Capitão Jewellery offers a bespoke service of handmade pieces based on the customer’s taste and ideas. Recycling metals is also a possibility, almost like giving new life to a piece of silver or gold that does not belong inside a drawer.
