The Power of Color in Interior Design, with Camille Nichelini

Camille Nichelini is an interior decor content creator based in Los Angeles, California. Her interest in design and aesthetics started from a very young age, and this passion for interior decor really took off when she was studying visual communications at FIDM, leading her to realize that interior decorating was the perfect intersection of her passions. We sat down with Camille to talk about the power of color in spaces, her favorite room to decorate, and her top decorating tips.

I truly believe color in spaces is one of the most important aspects of design—colors have the ability to evoke certain emotions and create a specific atmosphere within a space. Personally, I gravitate towards vibrant earth tones such as sunset pink, yellows, and greens. These colors provide such an inviting energy, especially as the natural sunlight peaks through my windows! I love to balance out these colors with different textures and fabrics to create a stylish and cozy space—utilizing natural materials such as wood and stone. 

As for my favorite room to decorate, I would have to say the living room. It is typically where people spend the majority of their time, and it presents a great opportunity to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

Against the backdrop of my yellow sofa, neutral travertine coffee tables, and cozy shag rug, the cowboy boot vase stands out as a delightful focal point! Every time I gaze at it amidst the ensemble of my living room, it brings a sense of joy and individuality to my home decor (especially when displaying a fresh bouquet inside)! 

In terms of interior styles and trends, I believe that a well-designed space should reflect the personality and lifestyle of the people who live there, rather than being dictated by trends or styles. With that being said, I personally love and seek inspiration from styles of the 70s and 90s the most—but not exclusively. If I find a piece I truly love, I will always find a way to make it work cohesively in my space!

One of my favorite ways to add a touch of charm and ambiance is by utilizing interesting candle holders as decorative accents. I find that these little details have the power to transform a room and create a warm, inviting atmosphere. I also tend to gravitate towards colorful, tapered candles I can easily switch out depending on the mood.

This cheeky checkered vase's vibrant purple hue adds a fun pop of color, infusing the space with a sense of energy and playfulness! I love displaying my dried lavender bundle within it. I trade off whether I want in displayed in my bathroom or in my kitchen! 

When it comes to my home decor, one aspect I absolutely adore is combining green and pink colour ways in my design choices. There's something truly captivating about the way these two hues complement each other. The vibrant greens inject a sense of life and freshness into the space, while the soft pinks add a touch of femininity and warmth. Whether it's through accent pillows, artwork, or even plants, the fusion of green and pink creates a delightful harmony that never fails to uplift my spirits. It's a whimsical yet sophisticated combination that reflects my personal style and infuses my home with playful energy.
