Mama Tierra combines indigenous heritage with western trends, seasonal colours and sustainable materials. The result are high-quality accessories designed by world-class designers such as Patrizia Stalder, Coral Hernandez and Vittoria Amber. All pieces are lovingly hand-made by Wayuu indigenous peoples in Colombia and Venezuela.
Mama Tierra is a Swiss non-profit organization (NPO) that has been supporting indigenous peoples since 2014 in their quest for self-determination, human rights and environmental protection. The NPO offers existence-saving wages and financial independence for indigenous women. The focus is on women because they ensure the well-being of the family, securing its income and educating the children. Women are the strongest link in many indigenous societies, but this is particularly true in the Wayuu culture as they have a matrilineal kinship structure.
